Lokobe: access, wildlife, timing

Lokobe protects Nosy Be’s last primary forest. Learn how to reach it, what wildlife to expect and how to prepare for this jungle walk.

Contenu

Access – Drive 40 minutes to Ambatozavavy then board a traditional outrigger canoe for a 15-minute crossing through the mangroves. A community tracker leads the group on a shaded 2 km trail.

Wildlife – Black lemurs, panther chameleons, tiny Brookesia chameleons, leaf-tailed geckos, boas and painted frogs. Observations are done without flash or feeding.

Gear – Closed shoes, natural repellent, one litre of water per guest, lightweight rain jacket in the wet season. Lunch (grilled fish, coconut rice, bananas flambé) is served by the river.

Lokobe is available all year; rain can make the trail slippery. Ginot provides hiking sticks, binoculars and dry bags for cameras.
