From September to December, whale sharks gather to feed in the waters around Nosy Be. The trip combines a careful boat search with a guided entry into the water to swim at a respectful distance, without touching the animal or blocking its path, in accordance with Madagascar’s official code of conduct. The trip also includes a stop at Nosy Sakatia, with a minimum booking of two people.
A wild encounter
This trip follows the animal and the conditions of the day. The search at sea always comes before any decision to enter the water.
Departure is in the morning. From September to December, the boat searches the waters around Nosy Be according to the sea and the day’s sightings; October and November are generally the most favourable months.
This remains an encounter with a wild animal. Its presence cannot be guaranteed and search time varies from one trip to the next.
Before anyone enters the water, Ginot explains the approach rules. The swim only takes place when the sea, the animal’s presence and its behaviour allow it.
In the water, everyone keeps their distance, avoids touching the whale shark and stays clear of its path. The encounter follows the animal’s pace, in line with Madagascar’s official code of conduct.
The price is €70 per person and includes the certified guide, the boat search and the guided swim. Snorkelling gear, a towel and the meal should be confirmed with Ginot before departure.

Whale sharks live in the wild, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. Entering the water depends on sea conditions, the animal’s behaviour and the mandatory approach guidelines. Bookings start from two people; check snorkelling equipment, towels and meals with Ginot before departure.
